Rishabh Pant 38 Test Captain: The second Test match between India and South Africa is being played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The Indian test captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury in the first Test against South Africa at Kolkata, forcing him out of the entire two-match test series. Following this, Rishabh Pant has been appointed the captain of the Indian team for the second test in Guwahati. Pant becomes the 38th captain of the Indian team, only the second wicketkeeper-batsman to captain the team after Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

After Shubman Gill was released from the squad, the BCCI appointed Pant as the Indian team’s captain. With this, he becomes the 38th Test captain of the Indian team. He joins the list of legendary players like Lala Amarnath, C.K. Nayudu, and Bishan Singh Bedi. Interestingly, with Pant becoming captain, India now shares third place with the West Indies in the list of teams with the most Test captains.

With the appointment of Rishabh Pant as captain, he becomes the second wicketkeeper-batsman, after Mahendra Singh Dhoni, to lead the Indian Test team. Dhoni made his Test captaincy debut in 2008, also against South Africa. Now, 17 years later, Rishabh Pant has become the first wicketkeeper-batsman to make his captaincy debut against the Proteas. Furthermore, if India wins this match, South Africa will lose a Test match for the first time under Temba Bavuma’s captaincy.

BCCI Major Update On Shubman Gill

The BCCI issued a statement before the second Test, stating that Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury during the first Test and will be unavailable for the second. The board also stated that Gill arrived in Guwahati with the team on November 19th, but tests revealed he was unfit to play, and he has been sent to Mumbai for further evaluation.
