Rajeev Shukla Statement: The BCCI vice president, Rajeev Shukla, opened up on the retirement of Indian star duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after the upcoming Australia tour. Shubman Gill, the new ODI captain, is all set to lead the Indian team for a three-match ODI series against Australia, beginning on October 19.

Ahead of the series, there have been many reports circulating over social media that the upcoming ODI series against Australia will be the last for the legendary duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

The duo has already retired from T20Is and Test cricket, and now ODI is the only format where they will be seen playing in an Indian jersey. However, their retirement reports have come to an end a bit as the BCCI president, Rajeev Shukla, dismisses all these reports. He also mentioned that it’s all up to the players when they want to retire, and saying that the upcoming Australia series is their last will be wrong.

Rajeev Shukla said,

“This is very beneficial for us (Rohit and Virat being in the ODI squad). Because both of them are great batsmen, and in the presence of both of them, I think we will be successful in defeating Australia. And as far as this being their last series is concerned, it is nothing like that. We should never go into these things. It is up to the players when they will retire. To say this would be their last series is absolutely wrong.”

The upcoming Australia series will be a comeback series for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in international cricket. The duo was last seen playing in an Indian jersey in the Champions Trophy 2025. Ahead of this series, some changes were made in the team. Shubman Gill has been made the new ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer is the new vice captain.

However, now it will be interesting to see whether the upcoming ODI series against Australia will turn out to be their last or not.
