Pakistan Ruled Out: Controversies continue to surround the T20 World Cup 2026, first with Bangladesh and now with Pakistan. While Bangladesh has been eliminated from the tournament, Pakistan refused to play its match against India. This decision will give India two points via a walkover, but Pakistan’s troubles don’t end there. The situation is such that another of Pakistan’s matches is also on the verge of being canceled, which could make it extremely difficult for them to reach the Super 8 stage.
Pakistan Ruled Out From T20 World Cup

Pakistan is part of Group A in the T20 World Cup 2026, along with India, the USA, Namibia, and the Netherlands. Pakistan’s first match is scheduled against the Netherlands on February 7th at the SSC ground in Colombo. However, this match is under threat of rain. Pakistan’s warm-up match at the same ground on February 4th was also canceled due to rain. Therefore, there are chances that this match might also not be completed.
The weather forecast is not at all encouraging for Pakistan. Heavy rain is predicted throughout the week, and there is also a warning of thunderstorms over the weekend. Pakistan’s match is scheduled to start at 9:30 AM, but the rain is expected to intensify by the afternoon. If this match is washed out, Pakistan will only get one point, and the situation will worsen.
Pakistan Will Have Only 2 Opportunities Left

If the first match is canceled and Pakistan refuses to play against India, Pakistan will have only two matches left. One of these matches is against the USA, the same team that caused a major upset by defeating Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Therefore, the match against the USA will become a ‘do or die’ situation for Pakistan. A loss or a washout in that match would mean direct elimination from the tournament.

The situation could become so dire that if the February 7th match is canceled due to rain, the pressure on Pakistan to play the match against India might also increase. However, Pakistan has flatly refused to play against India in support of Bangladesh. The match was scheduled to be held in Colombo on February 15.
It’s worth noting that last year, an agreement was reached between India and Pakistan to play at neutral venues for ICC and ACC events, but Pakistan now appears to be backing out of that agreement. The ICC has issued a warning to Pakistan, but a final decision on the matter is still pending.
