Nitish Rana Angry On Umpire: The 18th match of IPL 2026 was played between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, which turned out to be a high-voltage one and a major talking point among cricket fans for several reasons. In the thrilling encounter between both teams, a moment came when Nitish Rana started arguing with the umpire during the game, and after that, he was awarded a hefty fine by the BCCI for misbehavior and violating the rules.

It was clearly visible on the field that Rana didn’t look happy with the decision of the umpire regarding providing fresh gloves to Tristan Stubbs, the batter who was batting for their team, which resulted in an argument between Rana and the umpire. This move of his has backfired after the game.
Nitish Rana Angry On Umpire

During the second innings, Tristan Stubbs’ gloves became soaked with sweat, after which he asked for a fresh pair of gloves. But the umpires rejected this request, which was made mid-over; subsequently, while attempting to play a big shot on the very next delivery, Tristan Stubbs was dismissed. With his dismissal, Delhi’s hopes of winning the game also vanished. It was during this period that Nitish Rana—who was present in the dugout as an impact substitute—was seen arguing with the fourth umpire.
He was visibly upset that Tristan Stubbs had not been permitted to change his gloves. He feels that the CSK team had been allowed to make changes mid-over, yet they were denied the same privilege—and he demanded to know why.
Nitish Rana Fined

Due to the argument with the umpire, the BCCI has taken a firm stand on Nitish Rana, who was found guilty of a Level 1 offense under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct. As a result, a fine amounting to 25% of his match fee has been imposed upon him. Furthermore, according to the regulations, if a player is sitting on the sidelines as a substitute, they are not considered to be an active participant in the match itself. Furthermore, if a player behaves disrespectfully toward an umpire or is observed using any form of abusive language, it is deemed a violation of the rules.
Nitish Rana has not only been fined 25% of his match fee but has also incurred one demerit point. If he commits another violation of the rules within the next 24 months, he could face a suspension from playing matches.
Now, the question is, were the umpires right?
What do the rules say?

According to the rules of T20 cricket, a batsman may change their equipment—such as gloves, pads, or helmet—only between overs or during an official time-out.
A change between overs is permissible only if the equipment is damaged—not merely because it has become wet. In other words, strictly according to the rules, the umpire’s decision was correct.
The match between CSK and DC was held at Chepauk, which witnessed several twists and turns. At one point, it appeared as though Chennai would win the match with ease; however, moments later, it seemed that Delhi, too, stood a chance of winning. Yet, in this thrilling contest, Chennai Super Kings—batting first—posted a total of 212 runs; subsequently, the Delhi Capitals team, while chasing the target, was bowled out for 189 runs, allowing Chennai to clinch the victory by a margin of 23 runs.
