The National Football League (NFL) is set to introduce a new holiday tradition, announcing its inaugural Thanksgiving Eve game. This groundbreaking event will feature a matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Rams, and will be exclusively streamed on Netflix.
A New Holiday Tradition
Following the success of its Black Friday game, the NFL is capitalizing on another holiday period by scheduling a game the night before Thanksgiving. This move is expected to draw significant viewership, with fans gathering to watch the game in bars and homes across the country.
Packers vs. Rams: A Storied Rivalry
The Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Rams have a history of competitive matchups. In recent years, the Packers have held a dominant record against the Rams, winning 16 of their last 21 meetings dating back to 1992, including 10 of their last 11 contests. Their most recent encounter on October 6, 2024, saw the Packers emerge victorious with a 24-19 win, highlighted by a 66-yard touchdown from Tucker Kraft.
Netflix Becomes the Broadcast Partner
The decision to stream the game on Netflix marks a significant step in the league’s partnership with the streaming giant. Netflix will not only broadcast this Thanksgiving Eve game but also the Rams’ Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia, two Christmas Day games, and a Week 18 Saturday game. This collaboration underscores the evolving landscape of sports broadcasting, with streaming platforms playing an increasingly crucial role.
Expanding the Holiday Football Slate
This new Thanksgiving Eve game adds to the NFL’s growing presence on holidays. The league has already established itself as a staple on Thanksgiving Day and has expanded its reach to Christmas Day games. The addition of a game on the night before Thanksgiving further solidifies the NFL’s dominance in holiday entertainment, offering fans more opportunities to engage with the sport throughout the season.
