Mustafizur Rahman in PSL: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially ruled out Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026 on January 4th. This decision was communicated to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), following which the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Mustafizur Rahman. KKR had bought him for Rs 9.2 crore, and he was set to become the most expensive Bangladeshi player in the IPL, but now he will neither get the opportunity to play in the league nor receive this hefty sum.
Mustafizur Rahman in PSL

After being dropped from the IPL 2026, Mustafizur Rahman seems to have found an opportunity to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). According to a report, he may participate in PSL 2026, and indications of this emerged on January 6th. However, it is not yet clear which team he will play for. It is believed that he will receive a significantly lower salary in the PSL compared to the IPL, and his earnings there will be quite modest compared to the millions he would have earned in the IPL.
Opportunity in PSL after IPL

The Pakistan Super League usually provides opportunities to players who don’t get a place in the IPL or who are dropped from the league for some reason. Therefore, Mustafizur’s move to the PSL is not surprising. However, it is certain that his salary in Pakistan will be considerably lower than what he would have received in the IPL.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board also appeared unhappy with the BCCI’s decision. The board hinted at not sending the team to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 and demanded that the ICC hold Bangladesh’s matches in Sri Lanka. In addition, the Bangladeshi government, in conjunction with the BCB, has also banned the live telecast and streaming of the IPL in the country, indicating that this issue is not limited to just one player but is affecting the cricketing relations between the two countries.
