Mohammed Shami Ignored: Former Indian assistant coach Abhishek Nayar feels that the Indian selectors are all set to move on from the star pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been ignored for the upcoming two-match home test series against South Africa commencing on November 14.
The 35-year-old went through many severe injuries over the past few months and has not played for India since the Champions Trophy 2025, where he was the second-highest wicket taker for India. The last time he appeared in the World Test Championship (WTC) final was against Australia in 2023.
“It’s A Clear Indicator”: Mohammed Shami Ignored

In a recent conversation, Abhishek Nayar said,
“It’s a clear indicator. It’s an indicator that India is sort of trying to look forward. Right or wrong, it’s not for us to decide.”
“Akash Deep Understands The Conditions”: Abhishek Nayar

Further, he stated that Akash Deep’s inclusion in the team makes sense, keeping in mind his familiarity with home conditions and his incredibly consistent domestic records.
“Aakash Deep, again, is a local lad who’s played a lot of cricket there, so he understands the conditions. He’s always, to be fair to him, whenever he’s got an opportunity, delivered with the new ball. He’s made an impact. He’s really liked in the setup because he goes all out every time he gets an opportunity.”
Nayar also stated that the current Indian lineup is all set to adapt to any conditions.

“Looking at the squad, an extremely strong squad, all facets of the game, in a lot of ways, you have surety. You can play around with different combinations. And the conditions may not matter as well because you’ve got enormous talent in that setup.”
