Mohammed Shami Comeback: The Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami once again showed that his time isn’t over with the Indian Cricket Team. After a long break, he bowled a spell that caught everyone’s attention. In the game, Bengal defeated Gujarat by 141 runs at Eden Gardens, and Shami himself was the hero of the victory.
In the second innings, he bowled in his old style, took five wickets, and destroyed the opposition’s batting lineup. His bowling displayed the same speed, accuracy, and swing as before.
Bengal Coach Dig At Ajit Agarkar

After the match, Bengal coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla praised Shami, saying,
“Mohammed Shami doesn’t need a certificate from anyone. He is a certificate in himself. He has the backing of his fans, the media, and the biggest selector of them all, who is right up there (God).”
This statement was clearly said to take a dig at the selection committee, and especially Ajit Agarkar, for snubbing him from the team.
Urvil Patel Brilliant Performance

Gujarat had a giant target of 327 runs to win. However, the team’s situation deteriorated from the start. Mohammed Shami provided early blows, and the Bengal bowlers did the rest. The entire team was bundled out for just 185 runs. Shami’s impressive figures were 5 for 38 (5/38).
The Gujarat batter Urvil Patel, fighting alone, scored an unbeaten 109 but could not save the team from defeat. Shami had also made an impact in the first innings, taking 3 wickets (3/44). Shahbaz Ahmed also bowled brilliantly, taking 6 wickets (6/34). Together, Bengal gained a 112-run lead, which ultimately proved decisive.
This performance was special for Shami, as he took five wickets in first-class cricket after four years. The last time he did so was in a Test match against South Africa in 2021.
Mohammed Shami Comeback

After a stellar performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Shami was sidelined for nearly a year due to injury. He returned to action earlier this year in the white-ball series against England and then played a key role in India’s Champions Trophy 2024 title.
Despite this, when he was not included in the ongoing series against Australia, many fans and cricket experts raised questions. However, Shami chose to speak out on the field and responded to his critics with his domestic performances. He has taken 15 wickets so far in this season’s Ranji Trophy and is among the top three bowlers with an average of 10.46. This shows that Shami remains one of the most reliable and experienced bowlers in Indian cricket.
His fitness, enthusiasm, and consistency indicate that his journey with Team India is far from over. If the selectors look at his recent performances, it’s clear that Shami should be a perfect candidate in any format.
