Australian captain Mitchell Marsh missed the opening clash against Ireland, and ahead of that, Steve Smith has been added to the team. The Aussies are already without Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins due to injury and now are suffering with the loss of their skipper in the team.
On February 11, Wednesday Marsh missed the national team’s opening match against Ireland at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo because of a groin injury. In his absence, Travis Head came for the toss and led the team.
During a training session on Sunday, Marsh sustained a blow to the groin while taking sidearm throwdowns. After that, he immediately left the nets to get the medical attention.
Cricket Australia’s statement about Marsh stated,

“He is experiencing ongoing pain and discomfort, which is restricting his movement.”
“Scans have confirmed internal testicular bleeding, and he will require a period of rest and rehabilitation. His return to play will be guided by symptom resolution and medical advice.”
“Standby player Steve Smith will travel to Sri Lanka as cover to acclimate and prepare, should it be required.”

In the next game, Australia will be seen clashing with Zimbabwe on February 13, Friday, in the same venue. The Aussies will be hoping for the best for their captain, who brings invaluable experience and power to the team.
