Ganguly was scheduled to welcome Argentine football star Lionel Messi and his team at an event held at the Salt Lake Stadium on December 13. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other dignitaries were also expected to attend the event.
However, the event was canceled due to Messi leaving the stadium prematurely and the resulting commotion among the spectators. This controversy also gave some people an opportunity to make false accusations against Ganguly regarding his role in the event. Speaking to reporters, Saha claimed that Ganguly was the real organizer of the visit, while Satadru Dutta, who has now been arrested, was merely a front.
In his complaint, Ganguly stated that such baseless allegations are causing him mental distress and damaging his reputation. He said that it is simply an attempt to tarnish his hard work and the respect he has earned throughout his long career.
