Kohli Rohit Farewell: The fans of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are very excited for their comeback in the Indian jersey, whereas the former Indian head coach Anil Kumble has raised speculations about their future. Kumble asked the world to celebrate Kohli and Rohit’s last few days in cricket, as they have only a few months or days left of their careers.

Recently, Rohit Sharma has been removed from ODI captaincy, and in place of him, Shubman Gill has been named the new captain of the Indian Cricket Team in ODIs. At present, there are many uncertainties about Rohit-Kohli’s future, but the Australia series is locked for the duo. But the question is whether they will be playing till the ODI World Cup 2027?

According to the former cricketer’s recent statements, the end is near. The Men in Blue will be playing nine ODIs before the T20 World Cup 2026 and 18 till the ODI World Cup 2027.
Kumble said,
“Let’s just celebrate the two players on the field. They have done so much for Indian cricket over the years. You don’t know if, yes, in their heads, they have been thinking of the 2027 World Cup, but it’s still a couple of years from now. There are matches; all you need to do is go out there and enjoy, and now that Rohit is no longer the captain, even the burden and responsibility of captaining is not on him.”
“So, it’s just about batting and enjoying every moment that they have on the field. I don’t think they need to think too far ahead in terms of 2027. Both these guys have the experience; ideally, you’d want them to be part of the lineup, but it’s better played by the year.”

Further, he said,
“They just need to do what they need to in terms of preparing for an ODI six months down the line; that’s going to be the challenge. They would want to play until the 2027 World Cup and win it—that’s something that did not happen in 2023, with Australia holding the trophy. But like I said, these two players have been champions, and Australia will turn up in numbers to watch them play.”
According to the latest reports, the upcoming Australia tour might turn out to be the last series for the star duo. Now, it will be interesting to see whether the duo will be playing till the ODI World Cup 2027 or not.
