It was an incredible performance by the Men In Blue in the first T20I as they took a lead of 1-0 in the series. Abhishek Sharma gave a fiery start to the Indian team as he smashed 84 runs. Despite the win, a moment of panic was witnessed when Axar Patel faced an injury scare.

In the post-match discussion, K. Srikkanth stated that India might reconsider playing big names such as Bumrah and Hardik in some part of the series. He also stated that rest and rotation could benefit the Men In Blue in keeping their star players fit ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.

“I would still prefer India batting first and playing like this. But I want to also see them chasing 200, so it is a practice. It will be challenging in the World Cup if you are not chasing, and in every situation you will not get to bat first always. My only concern is injury. Axar got injured, and we don’t want key players getting injured. I think the likes of Bumrah and Hardik should not play a game or two. There should be rotation because there is no time for recovery if you get injured.”

After the disappointing series in ODI against New Zealand, the hosts set a total of 238/7 after opting to bat first, where Abhishek smashed 84 runs off 35 balls and Rinku Singh had an incredible finish with an unbeaten knock of 44 runs off 20 balls. After that, Indian bowlers maintained control against the Kiwis, restricting them to a score of 190/7 and taking a solid lead of 1-0 in the series.

The second T20I is to be played on January 23 in Raipur, where the Indian team will once again try to dominate against New Zealand.
