Joe Root 40th Test Hundred: Before the start of the Ashes 2025, Australian great Matthew Hayden made a bold statement for Joe Root.
He said,

“I will walk nude around the MCG if Joe Root doesn’t score a hundred in the Ashes in Australia.”
These were some of his bold statements without even thinking about his dignity and family’s reaction. But there are no worries at the moment for the Hayden family, as Joe Root has finally ended his century drought in Australia. After a long wait, Root finally scored a Test hundred down under as he smashed a century on the opening day of the second Ashes Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, on Thursday.
Joe Root 40th Test Hundred

Before the Ashes 2025, many questions were raised on Root’s form in Australia, with several cricket pundits trolling him for not scoring a century down under. There were also questions about whether he would be able to break that jinx or not.
On the other hand, Hayden, with full confidence, stated that he would walk naked around the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) if Joe Root doesn’t score a hundred this time.
However, Root saved his dignity and broke all the jinx by smashing a hundred in Australia off the bowling of Scott Boland. With that, Hayden also breathed a sigh of relief, and apart from him, his daughter Grace also looked quite happy.

“Root, thank you; you’ve saved all our eyes.”
After Root smashed his maiden hundred in Australia, Hayden’s daughter congratulated the batter who now has 40 centuries to his name in the longest format.
He said,
“Congratulations, mate, on a hundred here in Australia. Took you a while, and there was no one who had more skin in the game than me, literally. I was backing you for a hundred in a good way.”
Ashes 2025: 2nd Test Between AUS vs ENG

The opening day of the pink-ball test saw England dominating in the game by posting 325/9 on the board. At one point in time, it was felt that the visiting team would be all out for less than 275, but the final half an hour saw Root and Jofra Archer making Aussies tired.
Mitchell Starc played a crucial role in the Aussies’ bowling with the pink ball, as he took six wickets, leading the pace attack in the absence of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.
At the moment, Joe Root was not out for 138, and England posted a score of 334 for the host team.
