When the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025 was announced, everyone was very shocked when they didn’t see the name of Shreyas Iyer in the 15-man squad. Despite being the consistent performer and winning the Champions Trophy 2025, his omission from the team was a shocker. Despite his snub, now Iyer has been appointed as the captain of India A in a two-match unofficial four-day test series against Australia A this month.

In the Champions Trophy 2025, Iyer was the top scorer with 243 runs in five innings at an average of 48.60, smashing two half centuries.

Ahead of the series against Australia A, Iyer has expressed his frustration at being ignored in the upcoming Asia Cup.

In a recent podcast he said,

“It is only frustrating when you know that you deserve to be in the team, in the Playing XI. That time, it is frustrating.”

“But at the same time, when you know that someone is performing and playing consistently for the team and bringing out their best, you support them. Eventually, the goal is for the team to win, and when the team is winning, everyone is happy.”

Further, he added,

“But as I keep talking about integrity, if you don’t get a chance, you have to see that you do your work ethically. It’s not like you have to perform only when someone is watching.”

Iyer also talked about the feeling when the Indian team won the Champions Trophy 2025, stating that it was the best feeling. He stated that the preparations were the main key and that was the best comeback he has wished for.

He said,

“As we keep saying, you have to trust your preparations. When you prepare yourself in a certain manner, whatever happens on the ground is just a reflection of what you do off the field.”
