The Jharkhand skipper, Ishan Kishan, led the team from the front, helping the team to win its maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title. After the iconic victory, the young wicketkeeper batter opened up on his exile from the Indian team from 2023. After this he had to prove himself in the domestic T20 tournament and answered everyone with his performance, smashing 517 runs in 10 innings with an average of 57.00, finishing the season as the leading run scorer.

I felt quite bad…”: Ishan Kishan

After making Jharkhand win the tournament by a margin of 69 runs, Kishan broke silence on getting ignored by the Indian side for more than two years. Kishan was dropped from the Indian squad by then head coach Rahul Dravid and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar on some disciplinary grounds, stating that phase as difficult for him.

“When I was not selected for the Indian team, I felt quite bad because I was doing well. But I told myself that if I am not selected with this sort of performance, then maybe I have to do more. Maybe I have to make my team win. Maybe we have to do well as a unit.”

“It’s important that you don’t allow the frustration to get to you. This is my message to all the youngsters—frustration is something that will take you one step down, but at the same time, you need to put in a lot of hard work and believe in yourself and just focus on what you need to achieve.”

“I’m not expecting anything…”: Ishan Kishan

Despite Kishan’s impressive form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, he is unlikely to get a call-up to the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. However, Kishan is not much bothered by getting dropped from the team, as his focus now remains on performing in every game he plays.

He said,

“I know you fancy your chances a lot of times. And when you don’t see your name, you just feel bad about it. So, I’m not in that zone anymore. I’m not expecting anything. But my job is to just keep performing.”

The Indian wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan has already gone through many ups and downs in his cricketing career. It is to be noted that he was dropped from the ODI team despite hitting a double hundred.

“It is definitely the happiest moment, because we have never won domestic tournaments under my captaincy. And this was something where you had to prove yourself.”

“There are times when you doubt yourself, but when you win it, it’s all done, and you know what quality you have, what changes you can make to your game, and how you can turn the game around. Now, I have more trust in myself, more belief in my batting.”
