India Semifinal Scenario: After India’s 76-run loss to South Africa in the first clash of Super 8 of Group 1, now all eyes are on the Men in Blue semifinal scenario. The Narendra Modi Stadium once again turned out to be a curse for the Indian team as their winning streak in the ICC tournament came to an end here. After losing the 2023 ODI World Cup to Australia in the same stadium, India now lost to South Africa.

Talking about the game, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first, giving India a huge target of 187/7, and then in response, India got bowled out for 111 runs in 18.5 overs, a big defeat that has now destroyed the confidence of the team and brought the net run rate to -3.8.
With only three games in the Super 8, India is now left with two matches to fix everything—points, momentum, and net run rate.
What Should India Do to Qualify for the Semifinals?
Now, the Men in Blue’s main target would be to win the remaining two games against Zimbabwe and the West Indies at any cost.
With one loss already in a row in Super 8, the best thing for India would be to finish with 4 points. This will make the path clear for India on paper; beat Zimbabwe on February 26 in Chennai and then the West Indies at Eden Gardens on March 1. Anything less than this will not be enough for the team.
Second, two wins will not be enough for India unless their run rate goes high because a 76-run defeat has already destroyed their net run rate.
So, India’s main job is not just to win the remaining two games, but they need to win that with a big margin.
There might be some changes that management might make in the team in the coming games in Chennai and Kolkata. Now it will be interesting to see whether India will be making it to the semifinals or not.
