IND vs SA Test Series: South Africa won the Guwahati Test by a huge margin of 408 runs, sweeping Team India’s two-match Test series by 0-2. The Proteas set a huge target of 549 runs for India in the final innings, before the Indian batsmen collapsed for just 140. This is South Africa’s first Test series defeat against India in 26 years. Previously, they had defeated India 0-2 in a two-match Test series in the year 1999.

South Africa dominated the Guwahati Test from the very first test. Proteas captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors exhausted the Indian bowlers for 151.1 overs, posting a mammoth total of 489 runs in the first innings. For them, Senuran Muthusamy scored a brilliant 109, while Marco Jansen played a crucial innings of 93. Tristan Stubbs scored 49, Kyle Verreynne 45, captain Bavuma 41, and Aiden Markram added 38.

On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav took the maximum four wickets for India. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each.

In reply, the Indian team could only last 83.5 overs in the first innings and was all out for 201 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top scorer with 58 runs, and Washington Sundar scored 48. For South Africa, Marco Jansen took six wickets, while Simon Harmer took three. India fell 288 runs short on the first innings score.

After this, South Africa decided to bat again. The team declared their innings at 260 for 5 in 78.3 overs. This left India with a formidable target of 549 runs to win. The Indian batting couldn’t handle the pressure of this massive target and collapsed once again, collapsing for just 140 runs. Simon Harmer bowled lethally, claiming six wickets. As a result, India lost the match by a massive 408-run margin. This remains India’s biggest defeat in Test cricket, in terms of runs.
