IND vs SA 2nd Test: In the second Test match being played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, South Africa created history by setting a huge target of 549 runs for the Indian test team. This is the highest test target set by any team on Indian soil. Previously, this record was held by Australia in the year 2004, who posted a target of 543 runs against India in Nagpur.

549 runs is also the third-highest target in Test cricket against India. The highest target was set by Pakistan in Karachi in 2006, when they set a huge target of 697 runs for India. England set a target of 568 runs for India at Lord’s in 2002. England also set a target of 548 runs for India in 1959, which was considered a huge score at the time. Before the Guwahati Test, the highest target set by South Africa in India was 467 runs, set at Eden Gardens in 1996.

Talking about the match, South Africa declared their second innings at 260 for 5 in the Guwahati Test, almost ensuring victory.

Facing such a high target, it is very difficult for India to win. Statistics also don’t favor India, as Team India has never chased more than 445 runs in the fourth innings of Test cricket. Given the increasing pressure on the Guwahati pitch and South Africa’s strong bowling, chasing 549 runs seems almost impossible.
