During the official event of announcing the fixtures and venues ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, the Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav talked about which team he would like to face in the finals.

Suryakumar Yadav, without any hesitation, paused, smiled, and then responded, pointing back to the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad, where they lost to Australia by six wickets.
He said,
“Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad… Australia, definitely. Australia is the only team whom we want to beat because that’s the game that stays with you.”
Both Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were part of the 2023 ODI World Cup team, and the disappointment of losing at home still reflects on their faces.
ROHIT SHARMA : THE ICC BRAND AMBASSADOR FOR T20 WORLD CUP 2026

The T20 World Cup 2024 winning captain, Rohit Sharma, after his retirement from the T20 format, has now stepped into a new role. He has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the upcoming 2026 edition; he has a different say when the same question is asked to him.
He stated that the identity of the opponent was secondary to the result India is chasing. At the same time, he also talked about the 2023 defeat, which still haunts every player and fan in the squad.
Harmanpreet Kaur, who recently won the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 after beating Australia in the semi-final and South Africa in the final, talked about the same. She stated that India’s focus must remain on winning rather than on choosing a preferred rival, adding that she wants that team to win the final without any pressure.
