In the latest video shared by BCCI on the official channel. Gautam Gambhir said,
“Our dressing room has been very transparent and honest, and we aim to maintain that. I think we’re still not at our target for the T20 World Cup. Hopefully, the players understand the importance of being fit. We have three months left to reach where we need to be.”
The T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka next year, with defending champions Men In Blue looking to retain the title.
Gautam Gambhir On Testing Young Indian Cricketers

The Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir believes that testing players when they are under pressure brings out their best. He explained this by giving the current example of Indian Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill.
Gill showcased his talent with batting and captaincy in his debut test series as captain against England this year, due to which the team made the series a draw of 2-2. During the recently concluded five-match test series, Gill scored 754 runs at an average of 75.40, which included four centuries, scoring the best score of his career, which is 269.

Recently, he led the Indian team to an easy 2-0 test series against the West Indies at home last month. After that, he took charge of the ODI team as captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, but had a tough start in Australia, where India suffered a 1-2 series defeat.
Gautam Gambhir said,
“Throw players into the deep end; it’s as simple as that. We did the same with Shubman Gill when he was named Test Captain.”
The next target in front of Gautam Gambhir is the two-match test series against South Africa, which will commence on November 14.
