Gautam Gambhir T20 Approach: The Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir opened up on his fearless and flexible approach for the national T20 team. He stated that his focus lies more on impact rather than strike rates and averages.
Gautam Gambhir T20 Approach

In the latest video shared by BCCI on their official channel after India’s 2-1 T20I series win against Australia, Gautam Gambhir talked about the same. He stated that his ideology hasn’t changed since the start when he was appointed as head coach after the T20 World Cup 2024.
Gautam Gambhir said,
“That has been the ideology from day one when I took over as the head coach, from Sri Lanka till now. It has not changed. Batting orders are very overrated, except the openers, obviously. The two openers are permanent; the rest shuffle, because it’s not the amount of runs that matter in T20 cricket—it’s the impact that matters.”
“Don’t Want To Play Thinking About Averages, Strike Rates”: Gautam Gambhir

Under his tenure, India has built a dynamic approach that is totally based on adaptability and aggression, with players like Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and Axar Patel switching positions in the order one after the other.
Further, Gambhir said,
“That’s the reason from day one it has been a fluid batting order, and that is how we want to play the game. We don’t want to play thinking about averages, strike rates, and all that stuff. It’s about how much impact a person can create in what situation.”
“With Time, T20 Cricket Will Evolve”: Gautam Gambhir

The former Indian opener also stated that he focuses on evolving trends in T20 cricket. He said,
“With time, T20 cricket will evolve. We as coaches must evolve too. We want to be ahead of T20 cricket, ahead of time. The most important thing is that these young boys have adapted and hopefully continue evolving in the future.”
By concluding, Gambhir stated that individual performance is appreciated but will never celebrate a series loss.
He said,
“As a nation and as individuals, we should never celebrate a series loss.”
