Dhruv Jurel Selection: Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly also shared his opinion on Dhruv Jurel’s current form and his ability to play for India in the upcoming Test series against South Africa, which is all set to commence on November 14 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Rishabh Pant is all set to make his return after the injury as the first choice as wicketkeeper; Ganguly feels that Jurel can be used as a No. 3 batter.

In a recent event, Sourav Ganguly praised the young talent form but stated that making a place in the Indian settled lineupis also a task in itself.

He said,

“He’s playing well, isn’t he? Rishabh is back, and I don’t know what the selectors are thinking. Basically, the spots are taken—two openers, (Shubman) Gill at 4, Pant at 5, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja are there. Players have performed. How easy will it be to open up a slot for Dhruv Jurel at this stage? I wouldn’t know. But it depends on whom they want to send at No. 3, whether they want to go with Sai Sudharsan or bring in our in-form Dhruv. We’ll find out.”

The 24-year-old Jurel made it to the headlines after back-to-back centuries and a tremendous knock against South Africa A in Bengaluru in a two-match unofficial test series. He has shown consistency in red ball cricket—scoring over 1,000 runs in nine matches at an average of above 80.

The former Indian skipper also stated India is the favorite at home, highlighting the team’s spin attack and the recent form of all the players.

He said,

“Because India’s spin attack is very good. And this young team went to England three months ago and played exceptionally well. It was a fantastic series to watch—exceptional performances by Gill, Yashasvi (Jaiswal), Rahul, and Pant. They’ve been exceptional. Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Jadeja of India are a bundle of talent.”

“South Africa, I know they’ve played well in Pakistan. But India is a different kettle of fish. They’ll have to play really, really well to compete with India.”
