CSK Mistake vs RCB: There used to be a time when every team used to get scared on facing Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026. But the question is what’s going wrong with the team’s game plan in current times. At today’s time, every team plays against CSK to get free points to get ahead in the tournament.

In the 2026 IPL, a team that once had a match half-won the moment they stepped onto the field is today seen faltering continuously. In fact, the 11th match—featuring Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Chennai Super Kings—proved to be an embarrassing one for Chennai’s supporters, as the team suffered a crushing 43-run defeat.

So, where exactly is CSK making mistakes? The biggest blunder has been Chennai’s bowling failure. The start was decent, but as soon as the match entered the middle overs, CSK’s bowlers came under immense pressure between 7 and 15 overs. RCB scored runs at a rate exceeding 11 runs per over—this was the phase where the match slipped out of their grasp. Subsequently, a run rate of over 19 in the death overs seemed to completely break CSK’s back. In short, their bowling unit appeared to crumble entirely.

The biggest turning point occurred when a dismissal was overturned due to a no-ball; Tim David had been dismissed, but the delivery on which he was dismissed turned out to be a no-ball. Following that reprieve, the team smashed 70 runs off just 25 deliveries. The match was effectively over right there, though CSK still harbored some hope from their batters.

The second major came from Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy, as his decision-making during the match was null. They had secured a wicket in the very first over; yet, instead of turning to his premium bowlers, Ruturaj handed the second over to Shivam Dube—an over that subsequently cost them 30 runs. Meanwhile, veteran bowler Matt Henry was left with an unused over—one that was never called upon during the match—and perhaps the most baffling decision of all was that Prashant Veer, acquired for a hefty ₹14.2 crore, was not given a single over to bowl.

When you have options at your disposal, failing to utilize them constitutes a clear lapse in captaincy. The third—and arguably most significant—reason for the defeat was the top order’s poor performance; specifically, the loss of three wickets for just 30 runs early in the innings while chasing a target of 251. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, and Ayush Mhatre—all three were dismissed early on.

Despite this setback, the team still managed to post a total of 207 runs. Given this context, just imagine: had even a single batsman from the top order managed to hold their ground, CSK could very well have won this match. Thus, all things considered, there were three major reasons for the defeat: first, poor bowling during the middle and death overs; second, flawed decision-making in captaincy; and third, the complete failure of the top order.
