Cooper Connolly Statement: Punjab Kings batter Cooper Connolly made an incredible start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 in his debut season. He made a start just like his idol Shaun Marsh in the inaugural season of 2008, and the same was done by Connolly for the Punjab Kings.
Conolly smashed an unbeaten score of 72 runs against Gujarat Titans and was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant knock. He smashed Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada for sixes, defining his fearless approach at the top order.
Cooper Connolly Statement

While talking to Punjab Kesari in the JioHotstar Press Room, the Australian batter and now Punjab Kings player Conolly opens up on batting at the top order for the franchise in the ongoing season of IPL 2027. Punjab Kings batter Cooper Connolly spoke on JioStar Press Room ahead of TATA IPL 2026 Rivalry Week.
He said,

“Not particularly. I think I’ve asked for it for two years as I have spent my time at no. 3 and have some experience there, and I’m just looking to fill the spot I can, whether it’s in the middle or top, and I’m just trying to make the most of it as a player, and I really do enjoy batting in the top order, especially in India.”

In Punjab Kings, Connolly has been in close observation of the world-class skipper Shreyas Iyer and the best coach Ricky Ponting. Since the year 2024, Conolly has made his debut for the senior Australian team across all formats. He also believes that his aggressive approach in the longest format helps him align with red ball and 50-over cricket.
Now, it will be interesting to see how Connolly will be playing in the coming games of IPL 2026, especially in the rivalry week against the Mumbai Indians on April 16 at the Wankhede Cricket Stadium.
