BCCI New Rule: Team India is currently playing a five-match T20I series against South Africa, but amidst this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has surprised all the players with an important decision. The board has issued a new rule for players in the ODI and T20 teams, which all players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, will have to follow.
BCCI New Rule For Domestic Cricket

According to the board’s new rules, every player will be required to participate in a domestic tournament. According to latest media reports, the BCCI has instructed that all players in the Indian ODI and T20I teams must play at least two matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. This decision has been taken with the aim of maintaining the players’ match fitness and strengthening domestic cricket. The Vijay Hazare Trophy is India’s premier List A tournament, which will begin on December 24th.
Senior Players To Play Domestic Cricket

This rule is likely to have the biggest impact on senior players who have been away from domestic cricket for a long time due to their international schedules. According to the BCCI’s policy, players with central contracts are required to play in domestic tournaments whenever they have a break from the national team. This will provide players with continuous match practice and also give young players the experience of playing alongside senior players.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played from December 24, 2025, to January 18, 2026. According to reports, Virat Kohli will play at least two matches for Delhi in this tournament and has already confirmed his availability. Virat last played in this tournament in 2010. Rohit Sharma is also likely to participate this time, having last played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2018.
