BCB Bans IPL 2026: Cricket is generally a sport that unites people, but this time, the same sport has become a source of tension between India and Bangladesh. The Bangladesh government has banned the broadcast of all Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 matches and related events in the country. This decision was taken suddenly after Mustafizur was released from KKR ahead of IPL 2026, and the direct reason is said to be a dispute involving the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Bangladeshi star cricketer Mustafizur Rahman.

Mustafizur Rahman is one of Bangladesh’s most popular and reliable fast bowlers. He has been playing in the IPL for several years and was considered a key part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team for the 2026 season. However, the BCCI asked KKR to release him, and this move sparked outrage in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh government stated that this decision has hurt the sentiments of the people of the country. The government has clearly stated that until the situation regarding this matter is clarified, no IPL match will be shown in Bangladesh. This decision is said to have been taken in the “public interest.”

In the release it is being stated that,

“In view of the subject, it is being informed that a directive from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come to light regarding the exclusion of Bangladeshi star player Mr. Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders team for the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament, scheduled to be held from March 26, 2026. No rational reason for such a decision by the Indian Cricket Board is known, and such a decision has pained, saddened, and aggrieved the people of Bangladesh.

“Under these circumstances, until further notice, a request is made as per instructions to stop the broadcast/telecast of all matches and programs of the Indian Premier League (IPL).”

“This order is issued with the approval of the proper authority and in the public interest.”

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also taken the Mustafizur controversy very seriously. The board believes that the respect and safety of the players are paramount. For this reason, the BCB has also contacted the International Cricket Council (ICC). The board has demanded that Bangladesh’s matches in the 2026 T20 World Cup be moved from India to Sri Lanka.
