Babar Azam T20I Record: Babar Azam’s comeback in the T20I format for Pakistan was turned into a nightmare as he returned back to the pavilion after a two-ball duck in the first T20I vs. South Africa. However, he did not repeat the same mistake in the second T20I, going back to the pavilion and scoring 11 runs unbeaten, which included a boundary.

Pakistan chased the target of 111 runs with nine wickets remaining and 41 balls being left to finish the game. With the help of this 11-run knock, Babar Azam broke the record of India’s Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Currently, Babar Azam is the highest run scorer in Men’s T20I with 4,234 runs in 123 innings; he surpassed the record of former Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has 4,231 runs in 151 innings.

With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma being retired from T20I after the T20 World Cup 2024 win, it is now believed that Babar Azam will remain at the top for a bit longer till he performs well. Currently, Babar’s competitor is England’s Jos Buttler, who has 3,869 runs in 132 innings.

Talking about Babar, he reached this milestone by taking a single off the bowling of Donovan Ferreira to long-off. The former Pakistan captain made it to the T20I squad after he was excluded from the Asia Cup 2025 team.

Pakistan lost the Asia Cup 2025 final to India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, and this can be the key reason why Babar Azam was included in the squad, ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.
