Babar Azam Flop Show: In a recent revelation about Babar Azam ahead of Pakistan’s Super 8 show in the T20 World Cup 2026 qualification, a former national great broke his silence on the toxic internal politics that led to his resignation. The legendary batter, who was previously a national selector, stated that his exit was not ‘voluntary,’ as it was reported, but a direct consequence of a failed attempt to drop Babar Azam.
The Pakistan great also stated that his assessment of Babar’s prolonged slump was met with a very aggressive response from team decision-makers and that he felt staying in the role was a compromise of his dignity.
Babar Azam Flop Show Led to Pakistan Great Resignation

The former selector, Mohammad Yousuf, stated that his exit was a protest against a refusal to acknowledge Babar’s form. Yousuf stated that while he identified the former captain as a liability due to three years of poor performance, the decision-makers within the management were not in favor of benching the star player.
Yousuf stated,

“I have been saying for 2-3 years that Babar’s technique has gone for a toss. I’ve been hearing that he is out of form, but he is not. A player can only be out of form for two to three series, and he has not scored runs for the past two to three years. The moment I suggested resting Babar, everyone suddenly turned against me. I had to resign because of this. He was eventually dropped a couple of series later. What has happened to him today is because of the same people who doubted me.”
“Babar is nothing…”: Mohammad Yousuf

Further, he stated that the narratives regarding Babar’s struggles were illogical. He called the constant focus on mindset a misleading sales pitch, referring to it as churan.
He said,
“The churn of mindset is being sold very wrongly. Until you don’t have the skill, the mind can’t do anything. If you don’t have the skill, what will the mind do? Inzy Bhai’s and Saeed Bhai’s level can’t be matched. They can’t be matches. They were very big players. Zaheer Abbas, these four players were of different categories and levels. Babar is nothing in front of them.”
Currently, in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, Babar Azam is also on his way to finding his form ahead of the Super 8.
