A BCCI source stated,

“Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection. Some tests are being done to ascertain the problem. It is still not clear whether he will be discharged today. But the match against Namibia looks doubtful as of now.”

It is also being stated that Abhishek had been a bit unwell before India’s opener game against the USA last Saturday, with his condition getting worse after he played the game. In the clash against the USA, he was dismissed for a duck and did not return to the field for the second innings, with Sanju Samson replacing him as a substitute fielder, and he also skipped the post-match handshakes.

According to the latest reports, Abhishek had a high fever during the match at the Wankhede Stadium and was given drips for immediate relief.

Indian team assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, during a media interaction, said,

“Abhi still has a few issues with his tummy. We’re hopeful he’ll be available for the game in two days’ time.”

In Abhishek’s absence at training on Tuesday, Samson was the first to take the nets. The wicketkeeper batter struggled to score runs in the recently concluded home series against New Zealand and further was replaced by Ishan Kishan in the T20 World Cup 2026.

Further, Ryan ten Doeschate said,

“We’re waiting on Abhi’s fitness more than anything, and that will open up a few different combinations.”

Now, it will be interesting to see till when Abhishek Sharma will be fit and make a comeback in the Indian T20I team.
