England Smash World T20I Record In Manchester Against South Africa, Phil Salt Goes Unbeaten On 141

In the second T20I of England vs. South Africa, the home team created history and broke many records against the Proteas in Manchester. England registered one of their biggest wins ever of 146 runs to level the series, to which all credit goes to Phil Salt's unbeaten knock of 142 runs. The Proteas failed to chase the target of 304 runs and were bowled out for just 158 runs in 16.1 overs.

The second T20I between England and South Africa was played on September 12, Friday, at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground, where South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Harry Brook-led team scored 150 runs in just 9 overs, crossing the mark of 200 runs in just 12.1 overs, and 4.1 overs later they went on to 250 runs.

Phil Salt, the key player of the match, batted with a strike rate of 235, scoring an unbeaten 141 runs off 60 balls, smashing 15 fours and 8 sixes. Salt added 126 runs for the first wicket with Jos Buttler in 7.5 overs; the former skipper scored 83 runs off 30 balls. While Jacob Bethell scored 26 runs off 14 and Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 41 runs off 21 balls.

While on the other hand, when South Africa came to bat, Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Donovan Ferreira, and Bjorn Fortuin were the only players who crossed the mark of single digits but failed to play an impactful knock, which would have helped their team to win the game with less margin.

In the second T20I, England created history and became the first full member nation to cross the mark of 300 runs against another full member nation. This record was previously held by India, who scored 297 runs against Bangladesh in 2024.

The record for the highest T20I score belongs to Zimbabwe, who scored 344 runs, but they did it against Gambia, who are not a full member nation. In September 2023, Nepal became the first team to cross the mark of 300 runs; they scored 314 against Mongolia. Both are ICC's associate nations.

The third and final T20I between both the teams will be played on September 14, Sunday, at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The winning team will be clinching the series to their name by 2-1.
