How Does It Matter?: Aakash Chopra Breaks Silence On Virat Kohli’s London Fitness Test Speculation
Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra opened up on the controversy regarding Virat Kohli's fitness test being held in London in 2025-26. According to the latest reports, it stated that Kohli's test took place in London, whereas other players underwent the same test at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE).
Meanwhile, Chopra stated that there is no official confirmation regarding Kohli's fitness test conducted outside India, and if it is done also, then it is not something that should be made an issue over.
Aakash Chopra said,
"These are just speculations and reports at this point in time. There is no confirmation or clarification that Virat Kohli gave his fitness test in London and others gave it in Bengaluru. Of course, he was not here, but we have not seen pictures as well of him giving it in London. But even if he has—let us assume he did—how does it matter?"
Further, he said that Kohli's case can turn out to be an advantage in the future, as if some player is not available in India, then they can conduct the test anywhere around the world.
He said,
"Honestly, he just set the precedent that the next time if anyone is anywhere else, they can give the fitness test from there. If someone does this once, then you draw a line in the sand that this is the rule. It may not be necessary in that rule for everyone to go to Bengaluru. If someone is available anywhere, let them do the test there."
"If there is even some truth in this, then it is a new normal. You and I are not going to get bothered or worried about it, right?"
Now as per the latest reports of Indian star duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, they might not be considered for the ODI World Cup 2027, and the Australia series can turn out to be the last for the duo, as the management is looking for the young players for the future.
