Irfan Pathan's Big Take On Shubman Gill's Approach In Asia Cup 2025
The Asia Cup 2025 is just a few days away, and before that, appointing Shubman Gill the vice-captain of the Indian team for the tournament was quite a shock to some. After his successful captaincy in Test Cricket, his comeback in the shortest format is expected to strengthen the team's leadership and management in the future.
To which now former all-rounder Irfan Pathan feels that this step will be helping the Indian team in the long run, stating that the 25-year-old will be trying his best to show his capabilities with both his batting and leadership.
IRFAN PATHAN ON SHUBMAN GILL'S LEADERSHIP
Pathan stated that the new vice captain Shubman Gill's appointment should not have happened without consulting Suryakumar Yadav.
He said,
"This selection of being vice-captain of Shubman Gill without the consent of Suryakumar Yadav would not have happened."
Further, he said,
"More than anyone else in this group, Gill will go there and try to prove a point in terms of playing aggressive cricket. He has the ability, and he has got a lot of range."
Shubman Gill has replaced Hardik Pandya as vice-captain; this will be the key factor that the test captain might feel the pressure. If we take a look at Gill's strike rate, then in 21 matches he plays with a 139.27 strike rate with an average of 30.42.
PATHAN ON SURYAKUMAR YADAV'S CAPTAINCY
While talking about Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy, Irfan Pathan said,
"His responsibility is not only to perform, not only to actually look after the team, but at the same time to grow leadership and grow the team, and he has started (doing) that."
Pathan also shared that Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma wishes to continue in the 50-year format and is quite motivated about his future. He also mentioned the intense conversations with him but also talked about the changes ahead in the team, as both the senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are no longer considered for the near future.
