Mitchell Starc Retires From T20I Cricket, Main Aim Is To Focus On Tests & ODI World Cup 2027
The Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has now decided to bid goodbye to international T20 cricket. He took this decision to focus on his Test and ODI career. He has played a total of 65 T20I matches, in which he was also a part of the team that won the T20I World Cup for Australia in 2021.
Mitchell Starc's Retirement
Starc's last T20 match was in the T20 World Cup, which was held in America and the West Indies in 2024. Talking about this decision, he stated that Test cricket has always been his first choice. The experience of playing in the T20I format was great for him, especially the 2021 World Cup, where the team won and the atmosphere in the dressing room was also very fun.
He also stated that now he wants to focus completely on the upcoming Test tours and the 2027 ODI World Cup. Especially the Test tour of India and the next Ashes series are his priority. He also said that this is the right time to prepare young players before the next T20I World Cup in 2026. His retirement will give new youth a chance in the team, and they can prove themselves till the next tournament.
Starc further stated that he wants to remain fit and fresh so that he can give his best in big matches. Performing in tests and ODIs is now his main goal.
The Australian selection committee chairman George Bailey praised Mitchell Starc and said that he should be proud of his T20I career. He was an important player in the 2021 winning team, and his wicket-taking ability has changed the course of many matches. Bailey also said that Starc's decision to play in Tests and ODIs is good for the team and, he will definitely respect his T20I career at the right time.
