Mohammed Shami Shuts Down Retirement Talk With Blunt Response

Mohammed Shami shuts down the critics for his retirement talks

Indian Team star pacer Mohammed Shami hit back at trollers who are strongly raising the talk of his retirement. He made it clear that he is not in the mood to retire anytime soon. The pacer stated that he will decide about the retirement when the time is right; as long as he enjoys the game, he will continue to play—be it international cricket or the domestic ones.

Recently, he was out of Team India's red ball cricket, missing the England series, and after that, he also failed to make his place in the Asia Cup 2025, which has raised doubt about his future in the Indian team. In the Champions Trophy 2025 he last appeared for the national side and had a tough IPL season, which worsened his case for making a comeback in the T20I team.

The recent retirements in the Indian camp of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravichandran Ashwin, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma have also raised questions on Shami's future.

However, the 34-year-old broke silence on the talks of his retirement.

He said,

"If someone has a problem, tell me if it is like their lives would become better if I took retirement. Tell me, whose life have I become a rock in that you want me to retire? The day I get bored, I will leave. You don't pick me, but I will keep working hard. If you don't pick me for international, I will play domestic. I will keep playing somewhere or the other. You have to make these decisions when you start feeling bored. That is not the time for me now."

Further, he stated that his ultimate goal is to win the ODI World Cup and also talked about how they came very close to winning the 2023 World Cup but lost it to Australia in the final.

He said,

"I only have one dream left, and that is to win the ODI World Cup. I want to be part of that team and perform in a way that wins the ODI World Cup and brings it home. We were very close in 2023. We had a gut feeling, but we also had a fear that we were winning non-stop, and it was the knockout stage. There was some fear. But the enthusiasm and belief of the fans motivated us. This was a dream that could have been fulfilled, but maybe it was not in my luck."
