The duo announced their retirement in May 2025 before the start of a five-match test series against England.

The former cricketer stated that the legendary duo deserved farewells, and it was BCCI who managed a communication gap.

In a video shared by Srikkanth on his YouTube channel, he stated that both Virat and Rohit deserved better send-offs. Further stating that there was a big communication gap when the duo retired. He said,

"If you play 100 tests for your country, you must be a terrific cricketer. So you should be given a good send-off. I am convinced there was a big communication gap when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired. They should have spoken to them, but instead this is not a good look for the game and Indian cricket."

The former cricketer backed Virat Kohli, stating that he had at least 2 years of cricket left in him for the Test format. He also stated that the former Indian captain surely deserved a farewell, and it will be very hard for India to find someone like Kohli in the near future.

He said,

"Virat Kohli's retirement happened just like that. Virat Kohli deserved a better send-off. He still had two years of Test cricket left in him. But because we drew in England, such talks about him got shut off. However, India will find it difficult to get a cricketer like Virat Kohli for some time."
