Cheteshwar Pujara Open To Coaching Role Post-Retirement
Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara, who is known as the Wall of the Indian Test team, has recently announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. After a few days of retirement, he showed his wish of serving as a coach for the Indian team in the near future. He decided to call off his time from international cricket on August 24, 2025. He also talked about the joy that broadcasting gave him over the period of time. The 37-year-old stated that he is willing to serve Indian cricket in whicheverway it is possible.
He said,
"I've enjoyed the broadcasting work for sure. So, I'll definitely continue doing that. When it comes to coaching or any work at the NCA (BCCI Centre of Excellence), I'll be open to it. I haven't genuinely thought about it. Whenever there is any opportunity that arises, I'll try and take a call then. I've mentioned earlier also that I would like to stay attached to the game. So, in whatever manner I can contribute to Indian cricket. I'll be more than happy to do so."
Pujara also talked about the role his father, Arvind Pujara; late mother, Reena Pujara; and wife, Puja Pabari, had in his whole cricketing journey.
He said,
"It was an emotional moment for him as well. He also was an inspiration for me because his commitment towards cricket was excellent, and I've learned a lot from him. But I also would like to thank my mom. I lost my mom when I was 17 because of cancer, but she taught me a lot of things. She taught me to be a good human being. My wife Pooja as well; she has written a book where she writes that it takes a village for a person to be a successful cricketer."
Pujara last played a test match for India in June 2023 and had played a total of 103 tests and five ODIs for India. He has scored a total of 7195 runs at an average of 43.60, smashing 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries.
