Aakash Chopra Slams Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli’s Retirement From Test Cricket
The Indian star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from Test cricket before the start of the five-match Test series against England. The legendary players went through a rough form in Test cricket over quite a few years, and after the whitewash at home and BGT against Australia, the sudden retirement shocked everyone.
Recently, in a recent shared YouTube video on his channel, Aakash Chopra stated that the star duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from the wrong format. He also feels that both should have continued playing for India and should have retired from ODIs instead.
He said,
"The truth is that they have said goodbye to the wrong format. They had left the T20 World Cup, but the story might have been different had they continued to play tests and said goodbye to ODIs. India played only six ODIs in 12 months before the Champions Trophy."
Further, he said that playing only ODIs will not give the star duo enough practice on the field.
He said,
"There is a possibility that you might play only six Tests in a year, but even if it's only six Tests, it's 30 days of cricket. If only six ODIs are played, it's just six days of cricket over a period of time. It will be more than 100 days from your last IPL match to the next ODI you will play. You are not playing at all. You are not practicing at all."
It is to be noted that the star duo has expressed their wish to play in the ODI World Cup 2027, but recent reports state that the BCCI and management are not considering them for the future.
Now it will be interesting to see if they will be featured in the next edition of the ODI World Cup or not.
