Asia Cup 2025: Yashasvi, Gill, Sai Expected In India’s Soon-To-Be-Unveiled Squad
Team India's Asia Cup 2025 T20 squad is reportedly to be released in the third week of August. It is being reported that the new test captain, Shubman Gill, will be back in action in the format, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan are also likely to be part of the tournament. These three top-order batters were recently seen in the five-match test series against England, in which they performed extremely brilliantly, making the series end in a 2-2 draw.
According to the sources, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to call Jaiswal and Gill back into the squad, as they don't have any cricket left for next month and will get rest till the event starts.
Earlier, Jaiswal and Gill were not in the plans of the team, as they already had many options. If we look at Sudharsan's T20I career, then he has played just one T20I game, which was against Zimbabwe in the year 2024. It is quite shocking to learn that BCCI is interested in going with these players for the Asia Cup despite having Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and Abhishek Sharma.
A BCCI source was quoted saying,
"There is a five-week break, and with no cricket around, these three should walk into any T20 squad despite the stupendous show by Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. In 21 days in the Asia Cup, if one plays till the final, there are 6 T20 games, and that's not much of a workload. But obviously with 17-member squads allowed for the Asia Cup, selectors will weigh options carefully."
Will Mohammed Siraj & Jasprit Bumrah play in the Asia Cup 2025?
Now, the question arises whether Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj be playing the Asia Cup 2025 or not who was already having workload across formats. It is being reported that the selectors will be monitoring their condition before making any final call. It is to be noted that both players recently got featured in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, whereas Siraj emerged as the highest wicket taker in the series, playing all five tests.
The Asia Cup will be important in reference for the preparation of the T20 World Cup 2026, which is to be held in India. Suryakumar Yadav will be seen leading the team in both the tournaments.
