Yuzvendra Chahal Reveals An Untold Story About "Seeing Virat Kohli Cry"
The Indian team's star spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, recently appeared in a podcast where he spilled beans about his personal and professional life and many heart-touching stories too. But the most emotional story he told was about Virat Kohli's tears flowing from his eyes after the 2019 World Cup semi-final. Chahal revealed that after that loss, Kohli became so emotional that he locked himself in the bathroom and kept crying there.
In the podcast, Chahal said,
"I saw him in the 2019 World Cup... he was crying in the bathroom. I was the last batsman to cross him. There were tears in his eyes even then."
This was the same match in which Team India was playing the semi-final against New Zealand. In that match held in Manchester, New Zealand batted first and scored 239 runs with the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. In response, the Indian team had a very bad start, and the top order collapsed completely. All three legendary batsmen, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, returned to the pavilion after scoring just 1-1 runs. Although the pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni tried to handle the Indian team. Jadeja scored 77, and Dhoni scored 50 runs, but the team was all out for 221 runs and was out of the tournament. This defeat was not just a match, but this game broke the dream of crores of Indians. And the most pain was felt by the captain, who had put his whole life into taking the team to the finals.
This defeat was very personal for Virat Kohli; as a captain, he had performed brilliantly in the tournament. In the league stage, India had won 7 out of 9 matches and lost only one match. But this defeat in the semi-finals became a moment that became one of the most emotional moments in Indian cricket history.
In the podcast, Chahal compared the captaincy of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and said,
"I like Rohit Bhaiya's behavior on the field. He is very cool and is a great captain. On the other hand, Virat Bhaiya's energy remains the same every day. It never decreases. He needs 100% every day."
