I Asked, Why Are You Going: Mohammed Siraj Discloses Conversation With Jasprit Bumrah
The Indian team made an extraordinary comeback on Day 2 of the fifth test at the Oval despite going through a poor opening game on the first day. On the second day, the Indian side was bowled out for 224 runs; Karun Nair's 57-run knock helped India to reach the mark of 200 runs in the first innings. However, when the English batters made it to the field, they went through their approach of baseball, smashing the Indian bowlers one after another. Openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett made the team's score reach 92 runs in just 12.5 overs.
The Indian bowlers didn't lose their hope; Zak Crawley's wicket boosted the confidence, but Ben Duckett's dismissal was an extraordinary one, which made it a bit animated the way Akash Deep gave him a send-off. The game took another turn when there was some heated conversation between Joe Root and Praish Krishna, and England showed their dominance in the game. From the score of 129/1 to being bowled out on 247 runs, the Indian bowling lineupmade a strong comeback.
Currently, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna are the leading wicket takers in the Oval test with 4 wickets each. Prasidh broke the opening partnership, giving the breakthrough to the Indian team, and on the other hand, Siraj dismissed the middle order with crucial wickets of stand-in captain Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Harry Brook, the ones who were doing well in the final test.
"I asked Jassi Bhai, 'Why are you going?" - Mohammed Siraj
Siraj led the bowling line attack with Bumrah very tremendously at the Oval. Bumrah was rested for the final test due to workload management; the same was informed by BCCI on Friday, that he has been released from the squad, too, to which at the end of the day's game, Siraj revealed a fun conversation he had with Bumrah.
He said,
"I asked Jassi Bhai, 'Why are you going? Who will I hug when I take five wickets?' He said, 'I'm here; you take your five wickets!"
Everyone's aware of the bond the two players share and never leaves a chance to express their admiration towards each other.
On the other side, Prasidh Krishna also talked about the role Jasprit Bumrah plays on the field. The duo also spent time together when both were undergoing rehab at the NCA in 2023.
Prasidh said,
"Booms (Bumrah) has been a great part of this. I think it's really important for us to enjoy each other's success, to have that rapport off the field, so when you're on the field, speaking to each other, you have that trust. Only that is going to make the team better."
