ENG vs IND: Sunil Gavaskar Criticizes Yashasvi Jaiswal's Technique At The Fifth Test
Former legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was seen furious at Yashasvi Jaiswal's failure in the fifth test against England on Day 1 just because of his cheap dismissal at the Oval. The youngster started the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with a bang, smashing centuries, but in the last 5 innings his form saw a big drop; he was trapped by Gus Atkinson for just 2 runs on lbw, making the team under pressure.
To this kind of dismissal of Jaiswal, Gavaskar raised concerns about his mode of attack, stating that Jaiswal's front foot movement and alignment both have deteriorated.
Gavaskar said,
"There's a bit of uncertainty and maybe a lack of confidence creeping into Jaiswal's game. After scoring a hundred in the first test, he hasn't looked very fluent."
Further, he said,
"That's possibly why he's not getting his front foot far enough forward to smother this return. But he's a talented player. I think if someone sits with him and works on a few technical aspects—like getting his front foot forward and not opening up his shoulder too much—it could help."
Sunil GavaskarThe Indian legend also stated the mechanism behind the flaw of young Jaiswal. He said,
"Right now, his back shoulder is going towards first or second slip, which makes it hard for the bat to come down straight. If his shoulder stayed more towards the wicketkeeper and first slip, the bat would come down straighter."
The 23-year-old saw a quite dip in his form, scoring 220 runs in the first 4 innings of the ongoing series and just 73 runs in the last 5 innings, crossing the mark of fifty just once. Now, he stands on 293 runs in 9 innings with an average of 32.55, with one century and two fifties in the bag.
Talking about the fifth test, on day 1, India ended on a score of 204/6 in 64 overs, with rain disturbing the game again and again. Karun Nair, who was dropped from the fourth test, gets a chance in the fifth, proving his worth by scoring 52 runs and remaining unbeaten at the end of the day, while Washington Sundar is batting on 19. On the other hand, from the England side, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue picked two wickets each, while Chris Woakes took one wicket.
