R Ashwin Slams Ben Stokes Double Standards, Praise Ravindra Jadeja & Washington Sundar's Ton
Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin slams English players for their behavior during the Manchester Test. All these incidents occurred in the last few hours of the game on Sunday when England skipper Ben Stokes, realizing that his team could no longer win the game, asked Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to call off the game without them making their centuries.
Both the left-handers playing unbeaten on 89 runs each, who batted the whole day and were nearing their centuries, were asked to leave the field by England players. After the Indians refused to do so, the English camp was a bit triggered and then started poking Indian batters. The skipper, Ben Stokes, asked Ravindra Jadeja if he really wanted to get his hundred against Harry Brook and Ben Duckett.
However, on the other hand, Zak Crawley said to Jadeja that if he wanted a hundred, he should've batted faster. Although Indian batters handled the situation very calmly and gracefully. Jadeja even told English players that the call of batting does not depend on them; rather, the decision was taken by coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill.
Speaking about all this on his YouTube channel, R. Ashwin said,
"Have you heard of the term double standards? Have you heard of it? The definition of double standards has been shown by them (England) in the last 10 minutes."
"You're shaking hands and saying I'm the one who's frustrated, and then you also don't score a hundred. You also cry and leave. How is this possible? You are saying I am unhappy; he has played all your bowlers. And now he has gone towards the draw. And he has worked hard since morning and reached here. And should he leave 100 and go? And what was your question? You want to make a 100 against Harry Brook. No, brother, he wants to make a 100. Please bring Steve Harmisson and Andrew Flintoff; he didn't refuse. You are bowling to Harry Brook. It's your fault. It's not our fault."
Ashwin did not stop here; he stated that Stokes should have gone with Harry Brook for the rest of the 15 overs to show the real spirit of the game.
"My question is, who is an international team captain who understands the spirit of cricket completely? And you are the brand ambassador for the spirit of cricket; you should have bowled 15 overs with Harry Brook. It would have been a great advertisement for the spirit of cricket. It would have been an amazing advertisement."
"And what was Zak Crawley's point?" Is this how you want to get 100? You should have batted faster to get a 100." Why? It is his wish. When to make it, when not to make it, and when not to make it. If you want to make it fast, make it and get out. It is your game."
Now it will be interesting to see what will be happening in the 5th Test at the Oval commencing from June 31, which is a do-or-die match in the series.
