Not Like Kapil Dev: Sidhu's Bold Take On Ravindra Jadeja After Manchester Test
Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu didn't hesitate even for a second in his assessment, stating that despite Ravindra Jadeja playing a crucial role in the Manchester Test, he still isn't a match winner like Kapil Dev.
After facing the uneven bounce atOld Trafford, Manchester, on the final day of the fourth test of the series, Jadeja smashed the century. He also formed an unbeaten 203-run partnership with Washington Sundar. He has been a consistent performer for India in the ongoing series against England, scoring 454 runs with an average of 113.50, with four half centuries, and now is the fourth-highest run scorer in the series after Shubman Gill (722), KL Rahul (511), and Rishabh Pant (479).
However, Sidhu, who had praised Jadeja in the past, stated that the all-rounder failed to win matches for India on overseas soil. He used the example of the legendary Kapil Dev to support his statement.
Sidhu, talking on his YouTube channel, said,
"I have praised Jadeja a lot. Kapil Dev was a bowling all-rounder, and he won a lot of Tests for India overseas. But Jadeja has done well in the supporting role away from home. He bowls his overs quickly and executes restrictive bowling, but he is unable to win Test matches, and it has been evident since the first Test."
This was not the first time Jadeja has been criticized for his performance during the ongoing series. Previously in the third test at the Lord's, Jadeja's approach was questioned a lot for the team's failure of 22 runs, making India trail in the series by 1-2. In the third test, he tried his best with tail-enders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, but India eventually lost the toss at the end.
Now the next target in front of the Indian team is the final test match at the Oval, which will commence on July 31.
