Rishabh Pant Injury Update: BCCI Confirms Scans After Painful Toe Blow
Team India suffered a major blow on the first day of the fourth Test match in Manchester as star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was injured while batting. Pant, who was playing well on 37 runs off 48 balls, hurt his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep against England pacer Chris Woakes. The incident happened soon after captain Shubman Gill was dismissed, adding to India’s problems. Pant misjudged the delivery completely. Instead of hitting the ball, it struck hard on his boot. England players appealed for LBW immediately, but the on-field umpire turned it down. On review, Ultra Edge showed a faint inside edge, which saved Pant from getting out — but it couldn’t save him from pain.
He collapsed to the ground in visible discomfort. The umpires called for a short break and medical assistance was provided. His foot had visible swelling and even some bleeding. He couldn’t stand up on his own and needed help from the physio. Eventually, a medical cart was brought in and Pant was taken off the field.
Shubman Gill, batting with Pant before his dismissal, visited the medical center to check on him. Pant was then shifted to a hospital in an ambulance for further treatment. BCCI confirmed that Pant has been sent for scans and the medical team is closely monitoring his condition. As of now, it’s uncertain whether Pant will continue in the series or not. The results of the scan will decide his availability. This is not the first injury Pant has faced in the series. In a previous match, he had injured his finger, due to which Dhruv Jurel had kept wickets. Fans were hoping for Pant to return to keeping duties, but this fresh injury has raised more doubts about his participation.
Earlier in the day, India had a solid start with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul putting together a strong opening partnership of 78 runs before lunch. However, things started falling apart in the second session as Rahul, Jaiswal, and Gill all got out in quick succession. Sai Sudarshan was impressive with a gritty 61-run knock, but he too fell while trying to play a pull shot off Ben Stokes. After Pant retired hurt, Ravindra Jadeja came in to bat and joined Shardul Thakur at the crease. The duo will now look to build a strong partnership and take India to a competitive total.
