England Legends Wish For Rishabh Pant's Swift Recovery After Toe Injury
The start of the fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford, Manchester, started well for the Indian side. England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first, inviting Shubman Gill & Co. to bat. Fans were disappointed on Day 1 after Rishabh Pant retired hurt in the 68th over, hurting his right toe. He was doing a reverse sweep when the injury happened as the ball deflected off the under-edge of the bat and hit his right toe.
Pant looked in very bad pain, which was very clearly visible on his face, and was taken immediately to the medical center for scans.
England's legendary player Nasser Hussain stated Pant's injury was a big blow for India and also had a special message for the Indian wicketkeeper batter.
He said,
"It has been India's day—except for the injury to Pant. That is a big blow, and it will be interesting what we hear overnight about that. Hopefully he is okay. This game needs Pant, and the series has been blessed by having him in it. Both sets of fans cheered him today when he came out to bat."
Meanwhile, former player Stuart Broad said,
"Pant has been wonderful to watch and commentate on. He's wonderful for world cricket, and we hope he recovers. The medical staff will be icing that swelling all night, and hopefully it's just a bruise, and he can come out to bat."
On Day 1 of the Manchester Test, Indian openers made a quick start; Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul put up an opening partnership of 77 runs, with Rahul completing his 1000-run milestone on English soil, becoming the fifth batter to do so.
The Indian skipper Shubman Gill was dismissed too early on Day 1, scoring just 12 runs. After that, Pant came to bat and built up a partnership of 72 runs with Sai Sudharsan in the second and third sessions before he left the stadium due to injury. He was retired hurt on 37 runs off 48 balls, and with the help of that, India reached 264/4 at stumps.
