Ex Indian Star Urges Shubman Gill to Embrace His Own Style, Not Kohli's

Tiwary Advises Gill to Stay True to His Calm and Composed Nature

As India heads into the fourth Test against England in Manchester, all attention is on Shubman Gill. This match is part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and is important for India, who must win to stay alive in the series. After a tough loss in the first Test at Leeds, India bounced back strongly in Birmingham, thanks to Gill’s brilliant double century followed by another hundred. However, things slipped again at Lord’s, where India narrowly lost by 22 runs.

More than the defeat, it was Gill’s reaction on the third day that caught everyone’s eye. He got visibly annoyed when England’s openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, started wasting time. His aggressive response became a hot topic, especially among former cricketers.

Ex-India player Manoj Tiwary didn’t hold back his thoughts on this. He said that Gill seems to be copying Virat Kohli’s aggressive style, which might not work in his favor. While Kohli is known for his fiery attitude on the field, Gill has always come across as calm and composed.

In a recent interview, Tiwary Said,

Gill doesn’t need to become another Kohli. He’s got his style, and that’s what makes him special. Ever since he started leading in the IPL, I’ve noticed a shift in his behavior. He argues more with umpires and shows more frustration on the field. That wasn’t the case earlier.

Tiwary also pointed out that being a captain doesn’t mean you have to be angry all the time or react to every little thing. “You can be aggressive in your game and still stay quiet. The best way to show strength is by winning matches, not by shouting or arguing,” he explained.

He also raised concerns about the language players use on the field. “Some of the words picked up near the stump mic don’t sound good. It affects the image of the team. Younger fans are watching and learning from these players, so it’s important they act responsibly,” he added.

This Test series is the first major challenge for Shubman Gill as India’s Test captain. After Rohit Sharma’s retirement, Gill was handed over the leadership role. So far, he has shown flashes of brilliance, but the pressure is building.
