BCCI Threatens Asia Cup Boycott Over Dhaka Meeting Venue

BCCI Demands Venue Change for Asia Cup Meeting Amid Tensions
Published on:

The BCCI took a strong step against the upcoming Asia Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting, which is set to be held in Dhaka on Wednesday, July 24. Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and the worst on-the-ground conditions in Bangladesh, the Indian board has made it very clear that they will be boycotting any decisions passed at the meeting if the venue isn't shifted.

The tournament is scheduled to be in the T20 format this year. Despite India being the host nation, the tournament has not been officially assigned a confirmed venue by the ACC. While reports have been shifted to a September window, this lack of clarity has only added confusion.

Now, one more chaos has been added to the tournament: BCCI's firm take on the location of the July 24 AGM. A source close to the developments stated that India will not be sending representatives to Dhaka and has already requested a venue change. But as of now, ACC president Mohsin Naqvi has not responded, and the situation remains tense.

A close source stated,

"The Asia Cup can happen only if the meeting venue changes from Dhaka."

Further, the statement states,

"ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi is trying to assert unnecessary pressure on India for the meeting. We requested him to change the venue but have received no response. BCCI will boycott any resolution if Mohsin Naqvi goes ahead with the meeting in Dhaka."

Currently, Naqvi is PCB chairman as well as Pakistan's interior minister, playing a dual role that has complicated the situation more for the Asia Cup.

This is not something new; earlier, India had made it very clear that they won't be traveling to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup, to which Sri Lanka was announced as a neutral venue for the games. The same thing was done in the Champions Trophy 2025 too, with India playing all their matches in Dubai and emerging as the winner of the tournament.

If no steps are being taken on the Asia Cup properly, then there might be chances that India won't participate, and if India doesn't, then there is no point in even conducting the tournament. Without the India-Pakistan rivalry, the tournament would lose its spark, and even the audience wouldn't show any interest.
