Karun Nair vs Sai Sudharsan: Coach Hints At Fourth Test Selection
In the ongoing five-match Test series between England and India, Karun Nair was given a chance in the Indian Test after a wait of long eight years. As cricket gave him a chance it seems like he's not able to give chance to himself, his performance is not up to the mark in three tests he has played so far against the Ben Stoke's team. After three Test matches, he has scored a total of 131 runs, which is quite low as compared to the level of player he is, currently has a average of below 22. Although he faced 249 balls, he was seen struggling against England's fast and swing bowlers. As now he failed to perform up to the expectations questions are being raised on him and his selection in the fourth Test playing XI.
The team's assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate stated that even though India is trailing 1-2 in the series, the team's confidence is still intact. He said that Nair's way of playing and his rhythm is good, but the team expects even more runs from him. In matches like Lord's and Headingley, India lost many wickets in a single session and that is the reason they lost the match. The coach believes that the team needs to correct its small mistakes and they should focus on the things that are still going right.
The team expected stability from Nair, who plays at number three, but now that India is lagging behind in the series, a big question has arisen in front of the team management. Should Nair be given another chance or should young batsman Sai Sudharshan be trusted? Sudharshan played well in the first Test match, but was later dropped so that another batsman could be given a place in the lower order.
Now that the fourth Test is to start from July 23, it has become necessary to decide whether Nair should be retained in the team or Sudharshan be given a chance again. Sudharshan is quite young and can be prepared for the upcoming near future. At the same time, Nair may have the last chance to prove himself.
Former Indian wicketkeeper and now commentator Deep Dasgupta also believes that the team should now invest in Sudharshan. He said that whenever Sudharshan got a chance, he looked comfortable. He is young and he is more likely to return to England in the next few years.
Before the fourth Test, Team India now has an important decision whether to give importance to experience or start preparing for the future. Karun Nair has a chance to prove himself, but if he misses it, then the time of Sai Sudharshan may begin.
