Aakash Chopra Applauds Washington Sundar's Spell, Dismisses Ben Stokes Threat In Lords Test
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra praised Washington Sundar for his incredible spell on Day 4 of the third test against England at Lord's. He stated that the all-rounder picked up crucial wickets, making a bold statement saying that Ben Stokes is no more a threat with the bat these days.
The Indian team bowled out England for 192 runs in their second innings on Sunday, July 13, while the visitors ended the day at 58 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. The Men in Blue team needs 135 runs with 6 wickets in hand to win the Lords Test, making their way to leading the series by 2-1.
In a recent YouTube video shared by Aakash Chopra on his channel, he praised Washington Sundar for his magical spells and picking up the crucial wickets of Joe Root, Jamie Smith, and Ben Stokes.
He said,
"It was an important question whether he should have been selected or not. He hadn't picked up too many wickets so far. It always seemed like you were using him as a defensive option. However, this was an 'ati sundar' spell. He gets the ball to drift beautifully."
"When he dismissed Ben Stokes in the last match, there also he got the drift in the air. If you see here, he has picked up big, big wickets, players we are scared of. No one is scared of Ben Stokes these days, but we are scared of Joe Root and Jamie Smith."
Further, he added that the English batters Joe Root, Jamie Smith, and Ben Stokes lost their wickets while adopting different approaches. He said,
"Joe Root missed a sweep. Consistently bowling within the three stumps is important, and he did that. He trapped Jamie Smith. The ball went away. That was brilliant. What should one talk about Ben Stokes? He tried to hit a six, and incredibly, he has scored 33 runs in the second innings in all three matches."
On Day 5 of the test, KL Rahul will continue to bat at 33 runs remaining not out in the second innings at Day 4, and Rishabh Pant will be joining him. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair and skipper Shubman Gill lost their wickets early. If India wins the Lord's Test, then they will be leading the series, which will boost their confidence for the upcoming two tests.
