Sachin Tendulkar Rings Bell At Lord's, Unveils Portrait In Cricket's Home
The India and England Test commenced on July 10 at the iconic Lord's ground between Shubman Gill & Co. and Ben Stokes & Co. Apart from all these things, 'The Home of Cricket' saw an iconic moment on Thursday as the 'God of Cricket,' Sachin Tendulkar, rang the five-minute bell to signal the start of the Day 1 game of the third Test between both the teams. This ceremony in itself has become a tradition since it started, involving previous greats, officials, and legends from the cricketing world, and now, at the moment, Tendulkar's turn was quite special.
The Indian great for the first time rang the bell after the series had been named in his name; now the series between India and England is known as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Earlier, Tendulkar was honored in a private event held inside the Lord's museum, where he himself unveiled his own portrait alongside former MCC President Mark Nicholas. The portrait is among the greats in the iconic venue, which stamped his legacy in cricket's home. It was a tribute to someone who has given so much to the game over two decades with his incredible performance.
Tendulkar holds the record for most runs in Tests and ODIs and has also played the most number of matches in both formats. The thing did not end here; he also has the record of international centuries (100) and test centuries (51).
Talking about the toss between both the teams, then England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat; with this, Shubman Gill for the consecutive third time lost the toss. Jasprit Bumrah has made it to the playing XI, replacing Prasidh Krishna, and from England, Jofra Archer replaced Josh Tongue.
